Meet the Scholars
Paul is an Ambassadorial Scholar sponsored by the Rotary Club of Arroyo Grande, California in district 5240. In 2006 Paul graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Modern Languages and Literature and a certificate in teaching English as a second language. He went on to spend a semester teaching linguistics and English as an intern professor at INACAP, a national university in Chile. Prior to being awarded the Ambassadorial Scholarship, Paul was working as a Firefighter for the Pismo Beach Fire department, and a basic life support instructor and translator for Action Safety Education. Paul is also a member of the Flying Samaritans and has interpreted for American doctors while performing medical procedures in Mexico. He is currently studying at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
Hannah Kelley
Hannah is a Rotary Academic Ambassadorial Scholar sponsored by the Rotary Club of Trenton, Michigan, and hosted by the Rotary Club of Valparaíso, Chile. She currently attends the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, where she is studying pre-hispanic studies, environmental law and Spanish. Hannah, before moving to Chile, was vice president and “reviving” member of the Rotaract Club of Wayne State University. The WSU Rotaract club is sponsored by the Rotary clubs of Detroit. From 2003-2004 she was a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Guadalajara, Mexico. Hannah was also awarded a Guistwhite Scholarship in 2007 from Phi Theta Kappa.
Nathan Gill
Nathan is a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar from Elon, NC, sponsored by the Alamance Breakfast Rotary Club in the Piedmont Rotary District 7690. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 2003 with a BA in Philosophy and Anthropology and is currently working on a Master’s degree in
Latin American History at the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. Before moving to Chile he was a survey specialist and translator at RTI International, a social science research institute in North Carolina. He is also the publisher of Southern Affairs, an online magazine offering news and analysis of political events in Latin America, as well as a part-time contributor for The Santiago Times, an English language newspaper in Santiago, Chile.
